SUMMER BLOCK PARTY BRINGS TOGETHER A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES SUCH AS WORKSHOPS, GUIDED TOURS, OPEN OFFICES, INSTALLATIONS, LECTURES, EXHIBITIONS, DEMOS, NETWORKING, MEET-UPS, FOOD, FILM SCREENINGS AND MUSIC.

THE EVENT IS HOSTED BY COMPANIES, ORGANISATIONS AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN THE AREA WHERE UNIVERSITETSHOLMEN, VARVSSTADEN AND DOCKAN MEET, ALL WORKING TOWARDS MAKING THE NEIGHBOURHOOD AN OPEN, LIVELY AND COLLABORATIVE PLACE.

THE SUMMER BLOCK PARTY’S GEOGRAPHICAL FOCUS MOVES WITH THE SUN AROUND SÖDRA VARVSBASSÄNGEN. EACH LOCATION COMES ALIVE WITH ACTIVITIES IN ITS OWN TIME, BUILDING FROM EARLY MORNING INTO A SHARED NIGHT FINALE.

PHASE 1 - THE OLD DRY DOCK 9.00–13.00 (MORNING)

  • Have a coffee and learn about our joint case study on reclaiming waste material such as light walls and gypsum. Followed by a guided visit to Personalhuset and the built prototypes that challenge aesthetics and show recycling possibilities.

  • Eight persons from the Media Evolution community take the stage in the first hours of Summer Block Party to share perspectives on changes they feel, signals they see, and futures they hope for.

    Each speaker has 10 minutes to present a change, a signal, and a future they long for related to their work, research or practice. The intention is to learn from each other’s observations, imaginations and visions and share the plurality of futures imagined by professionals in Malmö.

    The relay of horizons is not about predicting the future, it’s about sharing diverse lenses, sparking conversations, and expanding our shared imaginations.

  • Kolossal opens the office for eight short conversations about branding, content, digital solutions and visibility. A quarter of knowledge, a quarter of mingling, with concrete insights from our specialists' everyday lives.

  • Did you know that Malmö University Library is open to the public? Join a guided tour of Orkanen Library. The library is a vibrant public space for reading, learning, and discovery, beautifully located by Malmö’s harbour with panoramic views over the waterfront where the Block Party takes place. The tour also includes a short introduction to the ongoing exhibition about Malmö’s textile industry and the women who shaped the city’s history.

  • Join us for a conversation on how AI is shaping our region, and how we can keep people at the centre of that transformation. Through short talks, speakers share perspectives from their respective fields, offering glimpses into emerging developments and future emerging directions. Speakers include: Hampus Jakobsson (Pale Blue Dot), Melinda Elmborg (Karaoke Club), Charlotta Tönsgård (Migränhjälpen) and Kalle Magnusson (AI Sweden), with more to be announced.

    This session is organised in collaboration with Invest in Skåne, as part of a broader series of AI-focused conferences and events taking place across the region between 8–16 September (ECCV, Autonomy Malmö, and The Drop)

  • At the end of the year, a new hub for entrepreneurship, sustainable growth and foresight will open at Isbergs gata 2. Malmö’s incubator Minc and game development community Game Habitat will move there and Media Evolution will extend its place from across the street.

    We invite you to gather around the future indoor square of the block.
    Together with Minc, Game Habitat, Media Evolution and Wihlborgs, we open up a conversation about how professionals might gather better in the future.
    Explore early sketches and ideas for the neighbourhood’s future indoor square, share your thoughts, and help shape how the space could evolve.

  • Jazztrion SAS kommer att spela

    SAS utgår från Malmö och består av Vidar Santesson på saxofon, Aziz Arim på trummor och Gustav Sundquist på kontrabas. Gruppen har spelat med varandra i många andra konstellationer och bestämde sig för att utforska det mindre trioformatet. I den unika sättningen utan ackordsinstrument hamnar melodin i fokus och kommer till liv genom ett väloljat och inkännande samspel. SAS spelar egna arrangemang ur den amerikanska sångboken och glädjen till musiken går att skönja genom tonerna!

Dockplatsen has for years been an empty betong-square without proper seating options. Let’s together reclaim our square with the largest human-chair-chain ever to be seen. Phase 5 – the OLD DRY DOCK 21.00–02.00 (LATE NIGHT)

  • When the daytime programme winds down, we continue into the night. From 21.00–02.00, Varv turns into the official Summer Block Party afterparty an evening by the water with music, drinks, conversations and dancing. Expect friends, neighbours, collaborators and new connections from across Malmö’s creative and professional communities.
